A Basti is a dough dam created by the therapist from gram, or chick pea flour. The dam is molded and to be placed over a specific region of the body. The dam is present to contain medicinal oils that are to be retained over an affected area for roughly twenty minutes. Life without Pain offers several different types of Basti treatments.
Types of Basti treatments:
- Adrenal Basti
- Heart Basti
- Thyroid Basti
- Sacral Basti
- Third Eye Basti
Each Basti treats a different set of ailments:
- Stress
- Fatigue
- Poorly functioning adrenal system
- Hormonal imbalance
For those of us overwhelmed by the face paced life, and unable to escape from the stress and the depletion it causes to the health and the body, this treatment is ideal for replenishing the adrenal system, bringing the hormones into alignment so that one may lead a more functionally productive and happy life. The procedure is great for those who consume caffeine on a regular basis.
Heart Bastis are traditionally used to treat:
- Stress
- Depression
- Emotional trauma
- Depression
- Nervousness or anxiety
A dough dam is placed over the region of the heart with the intent to clear stagnant emotional trauma. The type of stress experienced by the client determines the exact placement of the dam, if clients have faced emotional stress within their past, clients will lie on their stomachs with the dam on their backs, if currently facing trauma, the basti will be placed at heart center. Arjuna or Ashoka trans-dermal cream is applied to begin to draw and release trapped emotion. Medicinal oils are then gently poured into the dam, which will retain them. Clients are left to sit for approximately thirty minutes, all the while partaking in healing touch therapy, an energetic therapy to redirect and balance energies, which may have been negatively affected by emotional trauma. Therapy will strengthen the physical and emotional heart.
Thyroid Bastis are traditionally used to treat:
- Chronic fatigue
- Low metabolism
- Used for blood purification
Treatment is ideal for those feeling chronically fatigued, facing struggles with weight loss or reduced metabolism, or to purify the blood. Tulsi trans-dermal cream is applied to the region as a primer for the medicinal oil to follow. Clients are left to sit for approximately thirty minutes, all the while partaking in healing touch therapy to balance the energies within the body.
Sacral Bastis are traditionally used to treat:
- Digestive disorders
- Colitis
- IBS
- Sexual dysfunction
- Low libido
- Irregular menstruation
- Lower back or lumbar pain
A dough dam is placed around the naval, medicinal oils are applied for the correction of digestive disorders, colitis, IBS, and female dysfunction. It can also boost low energy, including that of the sex drive. DGL trans-dermal cream is applied prior to the addition of medicinal oils as a primer. Sacral basti can also be applied to the back side for treatments of the spine and lower lumbar, these are typically referred to as Kati Basti.
Third Eye Bastis are traditionally used to treat:
- Poor sensory function
- Headaches or migraines
- Depression
- OCD
- Memory loss
- Glaucoma
- Disorientation
- Sinus issues including allergies
A dough dam is placed over the third eye with the intent to improve sensory functioning.
